Summary
Some of the neighbors stopped to look at the events unfolding outside the protagonist’s house. The protagonist returned inside her home, and the white woman with the petition left. Later that afternoon, the protagonist was in the kitchen, and Little V was playing. The protagonist began to reminisce about her childhood; she remembered climbing hills in the countryside, exploring the woods. The protagonist then lamented the fact that the woods had been bulldozed, and she recalled how her mother had to move when her father died.
