Chapters 13-17 Summary
In Chapter 13, Ivan finds the note that he took from Baba Tila's house and takes it to his mother. Ivan's mother and Katerina do not know what the purpose of the note is and advice Ivan to keep the note with him so that when the opportunity comes to give it to the intended recipient, it will be nearby. At the same time, Esther suggests to Ivan that he learn all he can to help conquer Baba Yaga's army. Ivan begins doing research on making gunpowder and distilling alcohol for Molotov cocktails. A few days later, Ruth calls and asks Ivan for him and Katerina to go with her on a picnic.
