Chapters 9-12 Summary

In Chapter 9, Ivan finds himself alone with Katerina in the bridal suite where she tells him about the conspiracy to kill him. Katerina believes Dimitri is behind the conspiracy, implying that her father is also in on it. As they talk, Sergei shows up with the scrolls that he has written his story on that Father Lukas now believes have been burned in the church. Katerina tells Sergei to go to Father Lukas and tell him a lie to get him to come to the bridal suite. When Father Lukas comes, they plot to sneak Ivan out in Sergei's clothing so that Katerina can take him back across the bridge to his own world.
