Chapters 4-5 Summary

In Chapter 4, Ivan begins to run in a circle around the chasm because he notices that the creature in the chasm follows him and by running the creature is causing the leaves to leave the chasm. Eventually Ivan can see the creature is a very large bear. Ivan tries to figure out a way to distract the bear so that he might reach the girl. Finally Ivan decides to just run and hopefully tire the bear out. After running for most of the day, Ivan begins to see that the bear is growing tired. Ivan takes a rock that the bear threw at him and throws it at the bear, hitting it in the head and causing it to lose an eye.
