Summary
Chapter 11 is titled “Follow the Signs.” Cecile is keeping a closer eye on Reverend Wolff since the events of Hook River. She knows Heiser is worried as well. If there are woods near their motel, Wolff often sleeps outside. Cecile searches for places that would accommodate sleeping outdoors. A young woman named Ivy says Wolff has become “distracted by the voice of God speaking directly to him. But Ivy was an idiot” (156). Cecile has also noticed Heiser paying more attention to Ivy lately. Cecile has been waiting for Wolff to advance their relationship, but she plans to take control tonight. She had left home for Los Angeles as a young teen. She immediately met a man named Sage who invited her to join a group currently squatting on public land.
