Summary
In “Penny,” Penny explained to Sam that she began being angry with her mother when Celeste hired a tutor because Penny had gotten a C in French. Bobby was 19. Penny was a sophomore in high school. Bobby had not been a good tutor. He and Penny spent their time drinking Celeste’s wine while they watched cooking shows in French. Bobby was the first boy around whom Penny felt completely comfortable.
One night, Bobby kissed Penny, which Penny had wanted. Because she thought Bobby respected her, she was surprised when he kept going even though Penny asked him to stop.
