Chapter 2, The Night Deepens Summary and Analysis

Ms. Eadie called home in order to hear a familiar voice. Ms. Eadie's husband, Joe, was not home yet, so she spoke to each of her children and wished them all a good night. This phone call and the sound of her children's voices reminded Ms. Eadie of her childhood and her desire to have a family. Ms. Eadie never had a secure family, always moving between her parents and different schools. Ms. Eadie decided she would marry as soon as possible and create her own family. At fifteen, while living with her mother, Ms. Eadie fell in love with the boy next door and was married.
