Summary
In Chapter 1, Scott Carey paid a visit to his friend Bob Ellis, a retired doctor. Scott told Bob he was concerned because his scales showed he was losing weight, yet he was not losing any mass. Scott demonstrated to Bob how the clothes that he wore did not impact his weight, even though he had filled his pockets with quarters by weighing himself both fully clothed and only in his underwear. Both times the scale showed he weighed 212.
Scott told Bob that he had been to the doctor for an examination but the doctor found nothing wrong with him. He had not told the doctor about his weight loss. He was telling Bob because he wanted input on what might be happening but did not want to be tested or considered a freak. Bob asked Scott if anything out of the ordinary had happened...
