Summary
Waking up the next day hungover, Eileen has to help her father get ready for Mass, shaving him and changing his shirt in the midst of the dirty kitchen. Eileen comments on their relationship, him getting angry at anything and her deliberately provoking him. While shaving him, Eileen thinks about killing her father. She never reveals her emotions because she does want him to have the power from the knowledge that he upsets her. She wonders about him chasing after her if she leaves and who would take responsibility for him in her absence. After her aunt Ruth takes her father to church, Eileen thinks about the tactics she used over the years with different men and her father, trying to win their affection by baring her soul and innocence.
