Summary
In Chapter 12, Apá dropped the twins off with Adela and gave her his cousin’s contact information in case anything should happen. As he and Efrén drove toward the border, traffic picked up and the protagonist noted the checkpoint. Apá assured him they would be fine, but Efrén was uneasy. When they pulled off the highway, Apá went over the plan with his son. He was to meet Amá near the Taco Loco after he found the Arco. When Efrén crossed the border, he felt overwhelmed.
