Summary

News of a powerful vigilante named Spiritel reaches the Council, and Dareh seeks Dorain’s help to stop him. Dorain pretends to help his father while secretly investigating Mirari’s death. He discovers reports of the Hale family’s kōnvoy accident twenty years ago, which allegedly killed Roselyn and her parents, on his father’s desk. Dorain seeks out Lucan, finding him in the abandoned town of Aias, also investigating Mirari’s death. The damage to the buildings and scorched ground caused by rare fire kore leads Lucan to conclude that Gaven’s final report left out crucial details. Dorain also asks Lucan why his father might be looking into the Hale accident, but Lucan brushes it off and warns Dorain not to pry into his family matters.
