Summary
The Knights, mourning Mirari’s alleged death, are divided in their grief. As the Knights try to assist villages devastated by the Defiants, they find themselves the targets of blame, feared by the common people. Some, like Dorain, seek to prove Mirari’s innocence, while Fangbane focuses on finding Eoin and stopping the Blessed's threat. Lucan begins his own investigation into Mirari’s death, confronting Gaven who, in his anger over being kept in the dark, reveals that he knows Mirari is Roselyn. Lucan then threatens Gaven, stating he will seek out an informant to find the truth, particularly Inigo, Gaven’s old partner.
Inigo Tepis, thinking he’s meeting Lucan Hale for a large business deal, accidentally reveals that Gaven killed Mirari. However, Lucan believes Mirari is alive—Gaven must know this, as he didn’t feel the recoil of their partnership...
