Summary

These pages are part of Book Seven titled Home. This section continues a shift in point of view and keeps readers with Edgar’s limited first person point of view on things. It’s also important to note that Book Seven is written in the past tense, as though Edgar is remembering details after his time with Conrad.

Shortly after returning home, Edgar convinces Lucy to allow the dog, Jack, to live with them. They also learn that Conrad bequeaths all of his possessions—the land, the cabin, and a lot of money—to Edgar. This upsets Lucy, but they take the inheritance knowing it will make a positive difference in all of their lives. Jack dies five years later.
