Summary

These pages are part of Book Two titled Time Regained. Florence is able to detect what is going on in the world of the living. She sees Edgar as he injures his finger and desperately wants to communicate with him. Edgar returns from the hospital in shock both emotionally and physically. Doctors prescribe him Percocet, which both he and Lucy partake in. They sleep through an entire day, missing Florence’s funeral because they are passed out on Edgar’s bed. Edgar is heavily medicated. He drifts into Florence’s room and, in his grief, piles all of her dresses in bed as though she were lying there. He then lights a candle at the foot of the Virgin Mary on his grandmother’s dresser and thinks it will bring her back. Edgar stoops out of the house on his way to school...
