Fish-Hound
Fish-hound is the main character and first person narrator of the short story "Ark of Bones." One day while trying to go fishing, Fish-hound feels paranoid that his friend, Headeye, is following him. Initially he thinks that Headeye is going to try to steal his fish. The longer Headeye follows him, the more unsettled Fish-hound feels. He has heard stories about Headeye's new spirituality and does not know what to think. He also knows that Headeye is carrying a mojo bone, which makes him nervous. Throughout the story, he repeatedly tells himself that he is not afraid and that Headeye's magical bone and his curious behavior are nothing to fear.
However, when Headeye leads Fish-hound to Deadman's Landing, Fish-hound has increasing difficulty concealing his terror. Suddenly an Ark appears before the boys, which Headeye insists is Noah's Ark. Fish-hound is unsure what to believe because the man onboard...
