Chapter 10 Summary
The trooper who calls in the incident refers to it repeatedly as a homicide. Reacher corrects him, explaining the death is self defense but his pleas fall on deaf ears. More than an hour later, another cruiser arrives and two more troopers - one a sergeant, get out. Twenty minutes later Hack leaves, and it is another hour before the ambulance arrives to take away Sloop's body. When the ambulance leaves, Carmen is brought out in handcuffs and put in the back of the second cruiser. Rusty, Bobby, and Ellie are left standing on the front porch looking shellshocked. Both cars leave, and Reacher probes the troopers for information on where they are taking Carmen. The cruisers pass the ambulance, and Reacher asks if Carmen will get bail, but the troopers tell him that without a lawyer, she could be in jail for...
