Wings

Wings symbolize elevation. A bird's – or an angel's – wings allow it to fly high above whatever troubles may face it. They are symbols of escape, of freedom, but also of overcoming whatever circumstances one may find oneself in. By using the physical shape of wings for this poem, Herbert makes this theme central to the text.

Larks
