Summary

The fifth chapter is titled “2011.” Three years have passed since the previous chapter. Several people in Boyne City have married and Jane feels it makes her own marriage seem even less important. Frieda announces she is marrying a high school teacher named John Hutchinson. She had always planned to marry a musician so he is learning to play the recorder. Aggie had arranged the sale of Jimmy's house to pay off the mortgage. She coordinated the sale of Jane's house and the purchase of another house on the outskirts of town. Jane knows Aggie looked at a lot of houses on their behalf, and she showed them several before they settled on one. Duncan liked the back deck.
