Summary
The third chapter is titled “2006.” A year has passed since the previous chapter. Jane answers a call from Phyllis who reads her an article about the need for women to consume calcium. The conversations always read a “circular” point where they argue. At one point, Phyllis makes a comment that “Luke soured you on marriage” (88). Jane argues that she called off the wedding. After the phone call, Jane drives to Jimmy's house as she does every Saturday. She thinks back on the events of the previous year.
