Summary

Chapter 40 – Dr. Nichols and Raph tend to Juliette, who has been injured in the tunnel sealing. Dr. Nichols confirms Jimmy and the kids are safe. Juliette tells them that they cannot allow people to dig their way back to 17, or everyone will die.

Chapter 41 – Charlotte heads into the tunnel where miners are clearing away rock and rubble under Courtnee’s direction. Charlotte tells Courtnee to stop digging, that Shirly’s sacrificing her own life to seal the tunnel has saved the people who made it through. Courtnee counters that Silo 17 cannot support Silo 18’s people for more than a few days. Charlotte tells Courtnee that she has been confirmed correct about other silos existing, and now they need to listen to her about poison in Silo 18.
