Summary
As Chapter 7, "Motherhood,” continues, Mary pushes Blue-Eyes in a baby carriage outdoors. They cross a field of tangled plants that slow their progress. Mary soon encounters the dead body of a large gray hare, and it oddly makes her think of Eddie. She thinks about him with an air of wistfulness. She knows that he plays for the Rockets, but she has had no contact with him since their relationship ended.
In Chapter 8, “The Four Horsewomen,” the narrative shifts to Janice, who has taken an interest in writing stories about horses. Janice shares this interest with other young women in the neighborhood, and they give feedback on each other’s stories.
