Summary
In Chapter 14: “The Red Basket,” Edgar was relieved when he learned that Ilse had broken off the engagement because he believed that meant she was no longer in danger. Ilse told her father she was going back home that afternoon, a comment that also relieved Edgar.
When Edgar returned to his room at the hotel, he had a message from Wireman. He said Jack had found the picnic basket. When they took it to Big Pink someone had been inside the house.
