Summary
In Chapter 5: “Wireman,” Edgar made his goal and met Jerome Wireman, the man on the beach. The woman who was sometimes with him was Elizabeth Eastlake. Wireman worked as her caretaker because she was suffering with early-onset Alzheimers. When Edgar muttered to himself that Elizabeth was “The Bride of the Godfather” (148) Wireman laughed so hard that he fell out of his chair. When he regained control of himself, Wireman explained that Elizabeth was the daughter of the Godfather rather than the bride.
Wireman explained that Elizabeth owned all six of the homes between Big Pink and her home, Heron’s Nest, which Wireman called El Palacio de Asesinos. He went on to say that Elizabeth’s father had once owned the entire island. Now, Elizabeth owned the northern part of the island. No one was sure...
