Augusten Burroughs
Augusten Burroughs is the author and narrator of the novel, Dry. He grew up in New England. His mother gave him away to her psychiatrist's family at a young age, and Augusten has a tumultuous life growing up. His father was an alcoholic and sometimes hurt Augusten during his blackouts. He was also abused by Neil Bookman while living with the family. Augusten meets Pighead on a phone call-in line for single gay guys. He and Augusten hit it off immediately, and Augusten falls in love with Pighead; however, Pighead doesn't want to be tied down in one relationship and tells Augusten this. Eventually, Augusten gets over Pighead, but Pighead soon learns that he is HIV positive. Pighead now realizes he is in love with Augusten; however, Augusten claims to be over Pighead.
