Summary
The protagonist recalls how he and Beto enjoyed shoplifting from the local mall: “Me and Beto used to steal like mad from these places, two, three hundred dollars of shit in an outing” (97). They would enter the store with a shopping bag and leave with it filled of stolen goods. To avoid suspicion, they would stop near the door before exiting and examine a nearby item. Beto was even so bold as to talk to mall security officers and ask them for directions. The protagonist states that his mother never suspected the shoplifting, but his father noticed all the new things the protagonist had and realized what the protagonist was doing. He warned the protagonist that he would be caught one day. During an outing to the mall one day, Beto and the protagonist were in fact spotted stealing, and mall security chased them...
