Summary
Isis follows a creek in the woods until she comes to a small wagon road. It is a hot April day, and she lies down in the cool grass. Isis feels miserable, as she fears the beating she will receive from Grandma. Isis says to herself that she wishes she could die so that her father and grandmother would be sorry about ever beating her. She considers running away from home, and then she considers drowning herself in the creek. She walks to the creek and begins playing in the water. She begins to have much fun in the water. Soon, a car comes down the road. It is the same car as before, carrying the same people: two white men and one white woman. They ask Isis what she is doing, and Isis responds that she is killing herself because her grandmother beats...
