Summary
The high occurrence of wind allows the harnessing of wind energy to be at the forefront of addressing global warming issues. While humans have captured wind energy, such as in sails, for thousands of years, the idea of turbines or using wind energy to convert it to electricity was introduced in the late 1800s. Sidelined by fossil fuel usage, turbines, now found in arrays on wind farms, have reemerged. Some countries like Denmark supply nearly 40 percent of their electricity usage with wind power. Such broad investments into wind energy are necessary to the industry’s development to overcome initial set-ups costs, intermittent power (no wind) and the aesthetically unpleasing structure. Micro Wind, or individual turbines, are often used in off-grid homes and may be used in conjunction with another source, such as solar.
