Point of View

The novel is written in third-person from the limited perspectives of several characters. These characters are Ivy, Wren, and Leaf, and the chapters switch between them, depending on which of them is present and able to relate the events of that chapter. For the majority of the novel, the three characters are never together, which is why it is necessary for the perspective to rotate. Ivy lives in the underground city of Valor and does not meet Leaf or Wren for years. Leaf and Wren are siblings and both are from Talisman, a city ruled by the dragonmancers. However, Wren is chosen to be a sacrifice to the dragons when she and Leaf are very young (though Wren actually escapes), and the two are not together again for seven years. Leaf spends most of those years in Talisman but eventually travels to a dragon palace...
