Summary

Chapter 14 is from Leaf's perspective. Everyone has been trying to sleep, though the roars of dragons made it difficult. They see that the dragons seem agitated then see Mushroom running away from the palace. Thyme runs toward his brother, leaving, Leaf, Rowan, and Cranberry to follow. Mushroom refuses to give up any of his treasure, even to save Grove. He says this treasure gives him power and that he will use it to start his own city. Mushroom throws an item at Thyme, capturing the attention of the dragons, then runs. A dragon (wearing a crown) lands by Thyme and Leaf rushes forward and stabs at it, discovering his sword will not penetrate the scales. The queen goes after Mushroom. Leaf stabs at another dragon who “looked down with a very human frown of displeasure” (159) before picking Leaf up. He realizes they all...
