Summary
Chapter 4 reverts to Wren's perspective. Wren admits her dragon is weird, but she would have been furious if anyone criticized him. At first, she carries him and begins to learn the dragon language. He does not eat meat and cries the first time she kills a rabbit. He does not breathe fire. For the first year, they travel south. When they reach the swamp lands, she finds dragons that hide in mud; so, she returns to the mountains. She thinks about the dragonmancers' map and feels their habit of labeling large areas simply as “HERE BE DRAGONS” as unhelpful. She has settled into this nomadic life and misses books more than anything else. She and Sky are still learning to communicate. Wren feels a responsibility to keep Sky safe.
