Menolly

Menolly is the daughter of Yanus Sea Holder of Half Circle Sea Hold. Menolly grew up around fishermen and was expected to help with the chores associated with that craft. When Petiron came to Half Circle Sea Hold, he became Menolly's teacher, helping her hone her natural ability to play and compose music. However, Menolly's parents were not happy about Menolly's pursuit of a craft they saw as useless. Menolly was often beaten for writing songs and berated for pursuing her desire to be a Master Harper, a role no woman has ever filled on Pern. Menolly eventually ran away after Petiron, her only friend died, living on her own in a cave rather than continue to be abused by her hurtful parents.
