In Chapter Seven, Tanis joins Kitiara at the ceremony. She tells him that she going to offer Laurana to the Dark Queen so that she can get the crown of the emperor for herself. Then, the queen will order Laurana killed in the dungeon. She tells Tanis that he must get the favor of the queen so that he can accompany Laurana to the dungeon. From there, Kit will release her, and Tanis can set her free outside of the city. She insists that he must follow her instructions or he and Laurana will both die. Tanis agrees and takes his place to meet the Dark Queen...
