Book 1, Chapter 5, The Chronicler and the Mage Summary
At the opening of Chapter Five, Raistlin lays dying on the doorstep of the revered historian Astinus of Palanthas. Astinus orders a servant to give Raistlin a room, even though the library of the Order of Aesthetics doesn't ever have guests.
As Raistlin lay in his bed he realizes that he is dying and cursed his frail body and the mage tests that made it frail. Raistlin's last hope was the secret spells that lay in the books of the Order of Aesthetic's library. He believes this because the dragon orb has told him.
