Part 6, Chapter 45 Summary

Alex continues to be visited by Mary and Claire continues to bring him medicine. He will die very soon, so he asks Claire to bring Jamie to him the next day. He says it's very important. Jamie does as Claire wishes and they go to see Alex the next day. Alex is in bed with Mary by his side. He tells them he is waiting for one more visitor, and then he can explain why everyone is there.

Jack Randall walks into the room and Jamie's flesh is disturbed. Alex announces that he wishes his brother Jack to marry Mary and take care of her in his absence. Mary is carrying Alex's child. Claire understands now how Frank will come to be. Alex asks Jamie and Claire to bear witness and performs the wedding ceremony from his bed.
