Part 6, Chapter 40 Summary
Jamie, Claire, and Murtagh leave the next day and head for Jamie's grandfather's house. Jamie needs to persuade his grandfather (Lord Lovat) to join the battle with Charles. Jamie tells Claire the story of how he never actually met his grandfather. His father didn't get along so well with the man. Turns out, Jamie's father is a bastard son of one of the maids his grandfather slept with. Lovat didn't care for his son very much. Claire listens to the story intently.
They arrive at Beaufort Castle and ride through the gates with no resistance. Lord Lovat finally rides toward them after being told he has guests.
