Part 6, Chapter 39 Summary

When Claire visits Alex the next day, her diagnosis is that he has tuberculosis and congestive heart failure. She informs him that he hasn't long to live. She gives him medicine to help the cough and some herbs to be brewed for his heart. She wants to know if she should share the news with Randall, to which Alex says no. He tells Claire that he already knows. They just know things between one another. Randall was true to his word and tells Claire that General Hawley is forming cavalry units in the south. Upon her return home she shares this information with Jamie.

Charles comes to Jamie with a task. He wishes for Jamie to go to the north and return to him at the head of the men of clan Fraser.
