Part 4, Chapter 29 Summary

Jamie is released by the king and told he must return to Scotland. Claire is thrilled. The king gives him a three week grace period so that Jared may return before Jamie leaves. Claire and Jamie spend the night together at Louis's, and in the morning they go for a ride on the horses together. They ride to the nearby cliffs. There is no one in sight and they are hot from the sun, so they strip and lay in the grass together. Jamie tells Claire he knows she slept with the king. Claire cannot believe her ears. She thought she hid it well from him. He asks how it felt to be with the king. She tells him it was the only thing she could do to free Jamie.
