Part 4, Chapter 27 Summary

Magnus, the butler from Jared's house, arrives to deliver a letter to Claire. She is shocked that the letter has not been delivered to Jamie instead. She opens the letter and it's the date and name of the ship from Murtagh. Jamie was supposed to leave upon receiving the letter and Claire is confused. Louise finally speaks up and tells Claire that Jamie is in the prison Bastille for dueling. They were afraid to tell Claire earlier due to her condition.

Louise sends for Doctor Clouseau to examine Claire, but Claire has other plans. She has ten days to get Jamie free and make it to the ship in time for the plan with Murtagh and smallpox. She sneaks out by shoving a servant into the closet and escaping by carriage. She heads for the hospital and seeks the help of...
