Part 3, Chapter 18 Summary
Claire goes to work at the hospital and since she's going to be working late, both Murtagh and Fergus wait for her in front of the hospital to escort her home. Mary accompanies them as well. There are no carriages at the late hour, so they take a side street home. There is a man posing as a watchman in front of one of the stores and he assaults Murtagh as he walks by, knocking him unconscious, then shoves him into a sack. Two other men show up and proceed to rape Mary and Claire. When Claire's hood is knocked loose revealing her hair, the men back away from her muttering, "La Dame Blanche". Claire is spared from being raped, but not Mary. The men run away and Alexander Randall, hearing the screams, comes over to help them. Jamie shows up...
