Part 2, Chapter 17 Summary
Jamie spends more time with Charles, and Claire waits at home for him while he continues to come home in the wee hours of the morning. One night Jamie doesn't come home at all, and Claire sends a footman to Charles's house to see if he's still there. He finally comes home and Claire asks him where he has been all night. He hesitates and says he is in need of a bath, to which she agrees. While his bath is being prepared by a servant, he explains to Claire that he was with Glengarry and Millefleurs at a tavern. They had gone to another after that, then another. The last tavern had ladies of interest to the men. Jamie assured her that he did not partake in any of the extracurricular activities.
