Part 2, Chapter 16 Summary
Over the next four weeks things progress very little. Louis of France ignores Charles Stuart. Jamie continues to read the letters Fergus steals and goes on running the wine business. However, Charles begins to invite Jamie to drink at taverns with him, and Jamie wins at chess against Monsieur Duverney, the Minister of Finance more than once. One particular night that Jamie wins at chess, they are invited to stay at the appartement due to the late hour in which they finish playing. Claire teases Jamie about his chess match, saying that he will dream about chess all night.
Instead, Claire has a nightmare about her pregnancy. She dreams that there are snakes in her belly instead of a baby. When she screams in her sleep, Jamie gets Monsieur Fleche and asks if she is losing the baby. Monsieur says that...
