F'lar and Lessa pour over the ancient records of Ista Weyr while Lessa complains about them being nothing more than information-like recipes. They discuss Lessa's idea that their strong beliefs may be based on their own visits to the past. As when F'lar visited that day from his past, he impressed upon his younger self the belief he would become Weyrleader. F'lar agrees it could be an influence, but the facts of the Records support that Pern is in danger. He challenges her to believe in him until spring. She nods.
