Part IV, Mother's Breath: Chapters 65 - 67 Summary
Pitt and Giordino have been instructed to wait behind while Loren and Diaz are flown back to Washington. They have been told that they can take a little time to enjoy the beaches of Wake Island until Admiral Sandecker comes to fill them in on their next step. When Sandecker arrives, it is in a huge C-5 with a DSMV similar to Big John aboard, a new and improved model called Big Ben. Three minutes later, the big plane is airborne again, this time with Pitt and Giordino on board. They have been instructed as to the seismic and volcanic nature of the seabed by and around Ajima Island, and that a nuclear blast will create enough disruption of the integrity of the fault that the Island will simply sink into the sea...
