Part III, Ajima Island: Chapters 49 - 51 Summary
Very early the next morning, Pitt is brought before Kamatori in his study, where more than thirty heads are mounted on the walls. Pitt is repulsed, especially when he recognizes the head of Jim Hanumara in the collection. Kamatori gives his victims only one hour's head start before beginning the hunt. Baiting his hunter, Pitt knows that he will only survive by his wits, and that he must do so; otherwise, the others will also be killed. He uses the knowledge he gained from the diorama that Meeker had built of Ajima Island to give him an idea of which way to head. Once Pitt reaches a clearing overlooking a very steep cliff that ends in shallow water, with a tree hanging by its roots of the precipice he takes out the blood...
