Part I, Big John: Chapters 7 - 9 Summary
The crew in Old Gert have been trapped at the bottom of the ocean for eleven and a half hours. All three members of the oceanographic team are still alive, though barely. They are nearly out of oxygen; the carbon dioxide scrubbing capabilities are diminished due to the discharged batteries. All three are alone with their thoughts, believing that death is just moments away. When Stacy hears music, Salazar believes she is hallucinating and urges Plunkett to just shut everything off and let them die. Plunkett's desire to live is too strong and he refuses.
