John McPhee
John McPhee is a nonfiction writer and professor. He has written more than 30 books and countless longform magazine articles. After beginning his career at Time, he became a staff writer at The New Yorker. He also taught writing at Princeton University. John was active early in his career at the same time that creative nonfiction and longform nonfiction were developing as mediums and contributed significantly to the field through his work.
McPhee grew up spending his summers surrounded by nature, camping, canoeing, and learning about the wilderness. This influence is present in many of his works that focus on the environment, geology, and nature. The childhood trips he took into the wild eventually developed into journalistic research trips into nature which would form the basis of many of his pieces.
