Chapter 5 Summary
Decker returns to Skink's cabin and waits on the porch for the man to arrive. Skink walks up with a dead rabbit, insisting once again that Decker share in his road-kill meal. As they eat, Decker asks Skink about Bobby Clinch. Skink reveals that he saw Clinch the day he died. Skink was skinning a snake in a nearby tree while Clinch was idling in the river, looking for something in the water. Skink could not be sure what Clinch was looking for, but he did see another boat nearby with two men on board. Skink did not wait around to see what happened, but suspects Clinch did not die by accident.
Pickney visits Clinch's widow to interview her again, hoping for a good quote for his article. While at her home, Clinch's widow shows Pickney Clinch's fishing gear, which she is trying...
