Summary
As the summer ends, 14-year-old Nikki Maxwell asks her mother for an iPhone before going to middle school at Westchester Country Day. She hopes it will help put her in the CCP – the Cute, Cool, and Popular – group at school. Her old cell phone – purchased off eBay – is an embarrassment. It has been impossible for Nikki, an artist, to save up money for a phone because she spends all of her money on art supplies. Instead of an iPhone, Nikki’s mom buys her a diary. Nikki is stunned because no one writes in diaries anymore, but posts everything about themselves online. Nikki says it is the worst present ever, and will never write in the diary again.
