Summary
In Chapter 6, it is the day before Horace will leave for Tucson. Mr. Reese’s wife Louise becomes quite sad and worried for Horace. Mr. Reese comforts her and says that Horace will likely come back to them eventually. Mr. Reese remembers when Horace first came to live and work on the ranch, years ago. Mr. Reese had spoken with Doreen, Horace’s maternal grandmother. Doreen believes that most Native Americans are fundamentally lazy, but she admits that Horace and his Paiute father are both very hard-working. In Chapter 7, Mr. Reese brings Horace to the bus station. Horace admits that he is nervous, and Mr. Reese says that he believes in Horace. Horace arrives in Tucson and goes to the house of his mother’s sister, where Horace will be living and paying rent for the next few months.
