Point of View
This story is written from the first person point of view. The narrator is April, and she is recalling the story of how her family moved into the Witness Security Program. This point of view is very effective for this story as it creates suspense and allows the reader to discover events as April did. The author, Lois Duncan, helps the reader understand events where April was not present by using dialogue between other characters to reveal what has happened. By using a limited first person point of view, the author causes the reader to identify with April and feel more connected to her as a character. The reader experiences April’s panic when her world falls apart, and when she realizes that she is responsible for Mike Vamp finding the family.
